Research team of the EUPE study2010:

The Research team of the EUPE study2010: project is a joint research initiative by the Chairs for Strategic Management at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg and the University of Freiberg and comprises two doctoral dissertations. The research project is supported by the Institute for Strategic Planning (IUP). Our academic advisors comprise professors and research assistants from the IMD Lausanne, Leipzig Graduate School of Management (HHL) and Technical University of Berlin.


Doctoral Students

Mathias Schatt

 

Matthias Krühler

 

Mathias Schatt is a PhD student at the Chair for Strategic Management at the University Erlangen-Nuremberg. He holds a degree in business administration (Dipl. Kfm.) from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. To complete his studies, he attended the MBA program at F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College. After university Mathias worked for four years as a project leader with The Boston Consulting Group. His main research interests are strategic management and private equity.

 

Matthias Krühler is a PhD student at the Chair for Management, Leadership and Human Resources at the University of Freiberg. He holds a masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Muenster. Matthias worked for three years as a consultant with The Boston Consulting Group. His PhD-prgam focusses Corporate Portfolio Management (CPM) in general, and parenting advantage topics for portfolio companies and private equity firms in particular.

Prof. Dr. Harald Hungenberg

 

Prof. Dr. Michael Nippa

 

Prof. Dr. Harald Hungenberg holds the Chair for Strategic Management at the University Erlangen-Nuremberg since 1999 and is affiliated professor at the School of International Management at ENPC in Paris. From 1995 to 1999 he held the Chair for Strategic Management and Organization at the Handelshochschule Leipzig. Before his academic career, Prof. Hungenberg studied business administration at the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) and was with McKinsey & Company, Inc. for several years. Today, Prof. Hungenberg still works as an independent consultant and organizes executive education for several well-known German companies. He is also the scientific director of the Institute for Strategic Planning (IUP). Prof. Hungenberg’s main research interests are strategic management, organisation, and controlling.

 

Prof. Dr. Michael Nippa holds the Chair for Management, Leadership and Human Resources at the TU BA Freiberg since 1996 and is a visiting scholar and professor at the Marshall School of Business (USC) and at the Australian Graduate School of Management (UNSW). Before his academic career, Prof. Nippa was the Managing Director of a management consulting firm (1988-1996) and a Supervisory Board member of various SMUs. His special research interests are in strategic management, corporate governance, behavioral decision making, and incentives.


Institute for Strategic Planning (IUP)

The IUP is an institution dedicated to promoting exchange of knowledge between academics and business practitioners. With more than 30 years of experience, the IUP is the oldest institution founded for this purpose in Germany. The IUP has conducted numerous research projects in the field of strategic management, corporate development, and controlling, many of them in close cooperation with industry partners. Knowledge generated in these research projects plays an important role in the executive education programmes offered by the IUP for more than 25 years. The IUP cooperates with several German research institutions, including the University Erlangen-Nuremberg and the University of Berlin.

Robert Gietl

 

Christian Landau

 

Robert Gietl is a research and teaching associate at the Chair for Strategic Management at the University Erlangen-Nuremberg. He holds a degree in business administration from the University of Munich and completed the additional studies program at the Bavarian Elite Academy. During his university education Robert Gietl worked as a graduate assistant and did several internships at well-known companies, including Giesecke & Devrient, TÜV Asia Pacific and L.E.K. Consulting. His main research interests are strategic management and private equity.

 

Christian Landau is a research and teaching associate at the Chair for Strategic Management at the University of Technology Berlin. He completed the general studies program at the Leibniz Kolleg Tübingen and holds a degree in industrial engineering and management from the University of Technology Berlin and a MBA from Salisbury University. During his university education Christian Landau worked as a graduate assistant and did several internships at well-known companies, including Beiersdorf AG, Degussa AG and Shell Royal Dutch. His main research interests are strategic management and private equity.

Markus Röhrig

Markus Röhrig is currently a PhD student at the Chair for Strategic Management at the University Erlangen-Nuremberg. His research focus is on the value creation of private equity firms in turnaround buyouts. Markus holds a degree in international business administration (Int. Dipl. Kfm.) from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. During his studies he attended the second year of the MBA program at the Kelley School of Business (Indiana University, USA). After university Markus worked for a leading top management consultancy.
